Mélanie Simard was born in Boischatel, Quebec in 1975. She has been studying different artistic techniques since the early age of nine years old, but today acrylic painting remains her preferred medium of choice for artistic creation.
Known already under the artist name of Mélan for still life painting, Mélanie wanted to develop a new style. She had a growing desire to work with aluminum. She starts with textured canvas using aluminum foil. In this new environment, the metal foil takes on a second life with the addition of paint, collage and heavy gloss varnish. She also manipulates aluminum plates, and without hesitation sands and scratches the surface to reveal surprising textures and effects. With the combination of her thoughts and her emotions from simple written words, her works signed “Simard” make us aware of time, life and space that surround us...
