Louise Larouche was born in Jonquière, Saguenay, Quebec in 1957. As a young girl growing up near the mountains, she fell in love with the evergreens and lakes between Chicoutimi and Quebec City. The different tones and colors, forms and compositions, and lights of the changing seasons fascinated her.

Louise started oil painting at age 13 and began taking lessons immediately. She studied with Thérèse Morency, a well-known teacher and artist at l’École des Beaux-arts de Montréal. And at the age of 21 she decided to focus on a career in Human Resources, and eventually obtained a degree in Industrial Relations. Louise also focused her attention on family, raising two daughters. She continued to paint for pleasure only.

In 1997, the focus was again on art. Her influences in painting reflect her personal vision and the experience of her surroundings. She draws from the rugged beauty of nature from the undergrowth to the lakes, the rivers and the deep forests of Quebec, Ontario and Western Canada. Most importantly, her art conveys the deep feelings that nature awakens in her soul. Through the use of vibrant colors her decisive strokes merge to create a unique window on nature. The atmosphere created by her brush is at times surreal.

Louise has been exhibiting her work since 2000, and now resides with her family in the Outaouais region of Quebec.

"I’m moved by the stillness and vastness of nature, treasured silent places, still untouched by the hand of man’’ L. Larouche
